Boulder CATV airs citizens’ stories of sports, health, arts

The Eye checked out “This Week in Boulder,” the community’s first weekly TV magazine on channel 54.

The TV magazine was created by community volunteers and Boulder’s Community Access TV (CATV) station. The program, which began airing on March 31, is 30 minutes of short reports produced by Boulder citizens on subjects like local events, gardening, health and sports.

Several channel 54 veterans are volunteering to produce segments for the new show and have plans to do feature segments on local arts organizations as well.

Exploring & expressing grief

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

CATV also offers classes in video production for Boulder residents interested in learning how to produce video for television or the Internet.

The Eye plans to stop by a Safeway store and pick up a free educational brochure dealing with topics important for a pet’s health and well being.

The brochure is put out monthly by the Safeway Veterinary Strategic Alliance to inform the public on issues directly affecting companion animals and the people that love them and depend on them.

The Alliance is also encouraging pet owners to have their pets protected with the microchip, the only permanent identification for pets. Pet owners with the Safeway club card will be able to receive the microchip for only $30 at area Safeway stores. A donation from the sale of every microchip will be made to a local animal charity.

The Eye knows how important pets are to people here in Boulder, so what better way to protect them?

It’s time for Celestial Seasoning’s exhibition of 50 tea cups selected from more than 200 entries in their annual design competition!

The competition, “A Loose Interpretation” opens on June 22 and runs through Sept. 9. Celestial Seasonings will purchase tea cups from the show to add to its corporate collection of teapots and related objects. The collection is part of an extensive art collection of original paintings used in the company’s packaging and promotion.

Fifty artists were chosen for the exhibition based on uniqueness and individuality of the design, appropriateness to the Celestial Seasonings image and how the proposal addressed the theme of the show.

The Eye watched in amazement as a gorilla and tiger came into the offices of The Boulder County Business Report on the prowl for new customers.

The animals were actually Callie Murray and Erin White, members of Marriott Residence Inn’s marketing team, dressed in elaborate costumes.

The two were promoting the opening of the hotel in Louisville on April 27. With the pitch for new the hotel being “The Residence Inn Will Drive You Wild,” the gorilla and tiger fit in perfectly with the safari theme.

The pair have surprised more than 500 people in Boulder County during the past week by showing up at local businesses dressed in costume to pass out decorated paper bags filled with juice, peanuts and a pocket knife.

The Eye has been invited to the ceremony of Tom and Marie Jenkinson where they will renew their vows for their 10-year anniversary.

The ceremony will be held at the Lionsgate Center with cocktails, dinner and a dance reception.

The Lionsgate Center was founded by the Jenkinson’s in 1990 after they were married. The center has two beautiful mansions with elegant gardens, outdoor pavilions with ponds, mountain views, large dance floors, antiques and stained glass. Each mansion can accommodate groups of 20 to 500.

The Eye can’t wait to drink, dance and eat at the Lionsgate with 200 others to celebrate the Jackson’s marriage. But moreover, the Eye is eager to see Marie present Tom with a special surprise – a red convertible Porsche.

Boulder County has received a new resident who will be helping to make a difference in the community. James D. Baldwin was selected as the new chief executive officer of the Longmont Community Food Share.

Baldwin comes from the Hawaii Foodbank and has extensive experience in the field. He also currently serves as the vice chair of the Western Region of America’s Second Harvest food banks and as a national delegate to America’s Second Harvest.

The Eye has learned that the Wok & Roll Teriyaki will be rockin’ and rollin’ to an additional location in Interlocken.

Wok & Roll is a fast food restaurant that serves healthy Japanese food, with current locations in Arvada, Boulder and Fort Collins. The Boulder location is one of the highest volume outlets in the state, serving about 7,500 customers a week.

Aside from opening a new location, owners and locals Steve King and Ryan Maxner are now offering free deliveries for lunch and dinner from the Arvada store and into the Interlocken business park.
