‘Eye’ to ConAgra: Choose one

“Won’t you please, won’t you please, please won’t you be … my neighbor?”

The Eye has heard it sung in Loveland and Greeley as both sweet-talk food product conglomerate ConAgra Inc.

The company has acknowledged that a shopping trip is under way for a headquarters location for its newly formed ConAgra Beef Co., and the bets have been down on a site at Rocky Mountain Village development at Interstate 25 and U.S. 34 in Loveland. After all, ConAgra is listed on city documents as the occupant of a site there.

The new year also brought a message, mailed to every member of the Loveland Chamber of Commerce, wishing each a “Happy New Year from your friends at ConAgra Beef Company.”

Could this be a gesture from a new corporate citizen to the Loveland business community?

But wait: Greeley also got a turn on the porch swing, with ConAgra execs meeting Jan. 10 with members of the Downtown Development Authority on site options. Could it be? Will the former Monfort meat company settle down at home and raise up a family?
