The Eye: RVC offers investor contacts

The Eye has spotted a new resource for entrepreneurs in search of cash. The 11-year-old Rockies Venture Club will host the first meeting of its Northern Front Range chapter at the Ptarmigan Hotel in Windsor June 24.

From 5:15 to 8 p.m., budding entrepreneurs and investors will have the opportunity to network over drinks and dinner. Featured speakers for the evening are Larry Fenster and Gail Daniel, two well-known Colorado “angel” investors, discussing angel investing from the perspectives of both the entrepreneur and the investor.

The event is hosted locally by the Fort Collins Virtual Business Incubator, the Larimer County Small Business Development Center, the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, the Loveland Chamber of Commerce, the Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce and The Northern Colorado Business Report.

The Eye keeps a close … well … eye on the pages of The Denver Business Journal, the nation¹s oldest weekly business newspaper, in search of interesting tidbits.

And, sure enough, in the April 23-29 issue, The Eye spotted a letter to the editor from none other than Steve Stansfield, president of Realtec Commercial Real Estate Services Inc., based in Fort Collins. Stansfield, a hunter and trap-shooter from way-back, wrote in support of Paula Aven¹s April 2-8 column opposing the concealed-weapons bill then working its way through the state Legislature.

“Making it easier to carry a concealed weapon (or an unconcealed weapon) will result in more people carrying guns that are not trained to handle them safely, and more prone to use them in situations where they are provoked,” Stansfield wrote.

He continued, “In my opinion, the NRA is a serious threat to our society, with their legislative clout (especially effective with the GOP, it seems). The NRA¹s campaign of misinformation makes me sick…”

Incidentally, The Eye reminds, the concealed-weapons bill was pulled after the Columbine high-school tragedy.
