The Eye: You can’t keep a good name down

The Eye’s spies have pointed out a possible new entrant to the Fort Collins banking scene, namely the Bank of Cherry Creek.

The bank has submitted an application to the Colorado Division of Banking for a branch in Lindenwood Commons in north Fort Collins. The proposed name is Poudre Valley Banking Center, a name that will strike a familiar chord with many Fort Collins banking customers, given the long history in the city of Poudre Valley Bank.

Poudre Valley Bank was purchased this year by Community First Bankshares Inc. of Fargo, N.D. Incidently, Poudre Valley Bank’s former president, Larry Meier, recently left the bank and is helping to start none other than, you guessed it, Poudre Valley Banking Center.

Ever-vigilant, The Eye picked up on this item that ran in the somewhat obscure IW Growing Companies, the self-described “leading management magazine for small- to midsized manufacturers. Seems that of the magazine’s inaugural “IW Growing Companies 25, America’s Most Successful Small Manufacturers,” two hail from Fort Collins.

The local honorees were New Belgium Brewing Co. and Value Plastics Inc.

“The IWGC 25 represents the vitality of U.S. manufacturing: small public and private companies that are laying a foundation of “best practices’ that will enable them to grow successfully and profitably,´ said Editor-in-Chief John R. Brandt. “These are companies that are managing and guiding rapid growth while satisfying the needs of customers, stakeholders, and employees.”

The Eye tosses a glance of approval toward our friends in Wyoming, who recently hired longtime Colorado economic developer John Reardon to run the newly formed Wyoming Business Council. The council is charged with turning around Wyoming’s anemic growth rate.

The boards of directors for Cheyenne LEADS, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce and the Cheyenne Area Convention & Visitors Bureau will conduct a welcoming reception for Reardon Dec. 6 at the home of Dale and Sharon Keizer. Attendees must RSVP at (307) 778-1409.
