Landlords urged to buy Boulder rental license

BOULDER — City officials are putting landlords on notice: Buy a valid rental license, or else.

As of the first of the year, Boulder landlords renting unlicensed rental property may be fined up to $2,000 per violation and sentenced up to 90 days in jail. Valid rental licenses are required for all rental property in Boulder to be in compliance with the city’s housing code.

The code establishes minimum standards for use and safe occupancy of dwellings. Enforcement of the code is part of the city’s commitment to establish consistent health and safety standards for rental housing.

Rental license applications can be bought from Inspection Services, located at 1739 Broadway, room 406, or by calling the Rental Housing Inspection and Licensing Program at 441-3152.
