Weld County has struck again, luring a new manufacturing plant for a company expanding out of Boulder.
Aerocom Industries Inc. of Boulder is beginning construction on a 20,000-square-foot facility in Frederick to accommodate its growing manufacturing operations.
The expansion comes as Aerocom is preparing to be acquired by Unique Mobility Inc. of Golden. Unique Mobility develops energy-efficient electric and hybrid electric vehicle systems for automotive, industrial and aerospace applications.
Aerocom manufactures precision gears for the industrial and aerospace markets. The company recently secured a contract that will increase its manufacturing revenues twofold during the next 18 months. Aerocom posted revenues of $2 million in 1997.
The new Frederick facility will include space to accommodate manufacturing needs of Unique Power Products Inc., a Unique Mobility subsidiary charged with taking its products to market. Unique Power Products will use the manufacturing space to begin production of wheelchair motors for Invacare Corp.
Unique˜s acquisition of Aerocom is valued at an estimated $2.7 million, plus assumption of $1.1 million in debt. Completion of the acquisition is expected in January.
"We are excited about joining forces with Unique to grow our manufacturing operations," said Tom Lang, Aerocom˜s president and CEO. "Aerocom˜s core business is growing rapidly, and the broad range of commercial applications for Unique˜s proprietary technology promises to further accelerate our growth."
William G. Rankin, Unique˜s president and chief operating officer, said the acquisition will accelerate Unique˜s growth.
"This transaction is a milestone for Unique as it moves from an R&D contract-driven company to a manufacturing concern with volume production of electric motors and electronic controls," he said.
Weld County has attracted a number of Boulder County firms for expansion or relocations in recent years, including Dovatron International, Hauser Inc., Gerard˜s French Bakery, Applied Films Corp, Kaire International, Magnelab and others.
