Ault, car dealership play game of ‘chicken’
The Eye takes comfort in the fact that everyone experiences problems with their vehicles.
Take the town of Ault, for example. It purchased a police patrol car from Garnsey and Wheeler Ford in Greeley.
After the purchase, the vehicle was included on a recall list and a replacement part installed. However, the replacement part failed, causing the engine to “blow up.” It seems Garnsey and Wheeler has continued to bill the town for repair of the car, and the town continues to refuse to pay.
Now the town attorney has sent a letter to the dealership explaining that the town will pay neither the bill nor the interest charges.
The Eye will watch for further developments.n n n
The Eye’s spies have been watching the recreational habits of our friends in Greeley, and they’ve come up with some interesting facts:
No. 1, restaurant revenues totalled $25.1 million in Weld County during the third quarter, compared with $71.1 million in Larimer County.
We suspect that Greeley residents leave the town in droves come Friday and Saturday nights, be they headed for Fort Collins, Denver, Boulder or points in between.
Our spies have also seen first-hand the dearth of moviegoers in Greeley, even for a hot-ticket item such as Star Trek First Contact. On three separate occasions, our spies have been to movies recently on Friday or Saturday nights, and had the theater virtually to themselves.
So, listen, Greeley residents, yes, there are movie theaters in Greeley, and, yes, there’s many a fine restaurant, too. And remember: The Eye’s spies are watching.n n nThe Eye spotted a potentially controversial notion surfacing in Greeley: charge for Business After Hours. The Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce is the only major chamber locally that doesn’t charge for the monthly social gatherings.
That’s quite an accomplishment, given that Greeley’s event usually has the best food, free drinks and, usually, larger crowds than its counterparts.
But some people have witnessed the $7 charged in Loveland and the $10 ($15 at the door) charged in Fort Collins and want the Greeley chamber to gain a little revenue, too.
The Eye understands that goal, but a word of caution for our friends in the chamber: Opposition from chamber members would be fierce. Many will resist to the end paying an extra fee for After Hours, when they’re already paying dues for chamber membership and when they’ve been going for free for years.
Tread cautiously.n n nA word of praise to the folks at the Greeley Tribune. Someone very close to The Eye receives home delivery of several area newspapers, including the Trib, the Coloradoan and the Denver Post.
Invariably, the Coloradoan and the Post wind up on the driveway, while the Trib is placed smack-dab on the front porch, every time. To top it all off, if the Trib carrier’s arrival works out just right, he or she places the other papers on the porch, too.
That’s called above and beyond, folks.
