On Call, AppleOne stake claim to growth in temps
Two area employment services have new ownership that seeks to capitalize on the state’s booming temporary market.
On Call Employment Services Inc. of Loveland merged with Brewer Personnel Services Inc. of Arkansas Feb. 2, and AppleOne Employment Services Inc. of Fort Collins was acquired by publicly traded CoreStaff Inc. of Houston Feb. 12.
On Call and Brewer together will have combined annual sales of $70 million. On Call maintains offices in Loveland, Longmont, Greeley and Boulder, with three service offices at corporate sites in Fort Collins.
On Call last year issued W-2s for 3,000 workers, compared with 25,000 issued by Brewer. On any given day, On Call employs 500 workers, compared with 5,000 for Brewer. Brewer operates in Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia.
“We don’t plan a no-growth situation,´ said Betty Becker, On Call’s founder and co-owner. “We have some companies that would like us to expand our services to some new areas.”
On Call/Brewer will expand both nationally and within Colorado, Becker said. Becker and her husband, John Becker, will continue to run On Call under its present name.
Becker said Brewer brings strengths in human-resource training to On Call, which now can offer such training to customers throughout its territory. On Call, she said, is highly skilled in technology, including computer science, engineering and high-end manufacturing.
On Call plans to build a new, 15,000-square-foot headquarters building on U.S. Highway 287 in Loveland to accommodate its growth.
AppleOne operates offices in Boulder, Longmont, Fort Collins, Denver, Westminster, Loveland, Greeley and Colorado Springs. The company also owns Cheyenne Temporary Services in Cheyenne and Provincial Staffing Services of Naperville, Ill. The offices generated combined revenues of $15 million in 1995.
CoreStaff operates 107 branches in 17 states, with revenues of more than $425 million. Richard Keith, founder of AppleOne, will remain with CoreStaff and will assist in the company’s nationwide expansion.
