Xcel says energy bills will decrease significantly in 2nd quarter

Xcel Energy on Monday filed quarterly cost adjustments with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission that it says will lower the natural gas portion of residential customers’ bills by 18 percent for the second quarter of this year when compared to the same period in 2014.

Combined with a small decrease in the cost of electricity as well, the typical residential bill will decrease by 8.8 percent. Small businesses will see their bills decrease by about 13 percent, meanwhile.

As commodity prices for gas and electricity increase or decrease, Xcel said those changes are generally passed on to customers on a dollar-per-dollar basis. If approved by the PUC, the new rates would go into effect April 1 and remain in effect for three months.
