GREELEY — The Mountain States Lamb Cooperative paid $8.5 million for the meat-processing facility it has been leasing at 920 N. 7th Ave. in Greeley, according to public records.

Through the entity Mountain States Rosen LLC, the Douglas, Wyo.-based cooperative, a lamb and veal meat processor, bought the JBS Greeley Lamb plant from JBS USA Holdings Inc.’s entity Swift Beef Co.

Announced in November, the deal allows the cooperative’s members to control all stages of the production: raising, harvesting, processing, packaging, marketing and distributing.

Solar Operations and Maintenance for Commercial Properties

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

Mountain States officials couldn’t be reached for comment on Tuesday.

According to public documents, the property consists of five buildings on 17.4 acres. The main building is 76,667 square feet, of which about 42,000 square feet are refrigerated. The other four buildings total about 22,000 square feet, including a 19,000-square-foot cattle shed.

The cooperative includes the Mountain States Rosen meat-marketing company, with fabrication, distribution and marketing assets in Greeley and the Bronx, N.Y., and includes about 135 ranchers in 15 states.

“By acquiring JBS Greeley Lamb our company will truly be ‘range to table,’ strengthening the sustainability of the American sheep industry in the Mountain West and United States,” Frank Moore, chairman of the cooperative, said in a prepared statement when the deal was announced.

More than 120 JBS employees have the opportunity to remain in Greeley and work for the cooperative, which will employ a total of 250 workers.
