Weld County leads record oil production year for Colorado
Colorado’s crude oil production hit a record 82.8 million barrels in 2014.
The Denver Business Journal reported the milestone based on figures from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and noted that about 85 percent of the oil was produced in Weld County. The record figure eclipsed last year’s record mark of 65.3 million barrels.
The numbers come as oil prices have dropped 50 percent from last summer’s highs and several oil companies operating in the state have announced major spending cutbacks for 2015, Anadarko being the latest, saying this week that it would cut spending in Northern Colorado’s Wattenberg field by about 20 percent.
