ViaWest to acquire Boulder-based AppliedTrust

BOULDER — Information-technology consulting firm AppliedTrust Engineering Inc. in Boulder announced Thursday that it will be acquired by Greenwood Village-based ViaWest Inc.

ViaWest will acquire 100 percent interest in AppliedTrust, but financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

ViaWest, with 400 employees, provides colocation, managed services, cloud computing, and security and compliance services in 28 data centers in Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, Texas, Minnesota, and Arizona. AppliedTrust provides security, compliance, software development and infrastructure consulting services to a wide range of businesses and government clients.

AppliedTrust, founded in 2001, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of ViaWest and will continue to be led by its co-founders and co-chief executives, Ned McClain and Trent Hein.

Kayla Kirkeby, senior director of marketing for ViaWest, said AppliedTrust will maintain its name and 25 employees, and it will continue to operate at its current location, 1033 Walnut St. in Boulder.

“ViaWest is committed to adding new services and capabilities as part of our vision to be the North American leader in IT services,” said Nancy Phillips, ViaWest’s chief executive, in a prepared statement. “Combining with AppliedTrust allows us to provide customers with deep expertise that addresses their most pressing security and compliance needs, while keeping up with innovation and time to market.” ViaWest is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shaw Communications Inc. Last July, Canada-based Shaw Communications acquired ViaWest from Oak Hill Capital Partners and other shareholders for $1.2 billion.

Hogan Lovells US LLP served as legal adviser to ViaWest, and Kendall Koenig & Oelsner served as legal adviser to AppliedTrust.
