BOULDER — Via Mobility Services, a nonprofit that provides transportation services for people with mobility challenges, has hired Frank Bruno as its chief executive, the Boulder-based organization announced Tuesday.

Bruno replaces Lenna Kottke, who announced her retirement in May.

Bruno was selected by Via’s board of directors following a nine-month search. His first day will be Oct. 3.

Bruno moved in 2003 to Boulder from Fort Collins, where he was assistant city manager, to become Boulder’s city manager from 2003 to 2008. He spent three years as vice chancellor of administration for the University of Colorado Boulder and held executive positions, including CEO, at Western Disposal Services in Boulder, before becoming president and CEO of the Boulder Community Health Foundation for one year until February of this year. He since has been an independent government and private-sector management consultant.

Bruno has served on many local nonprofit volunteer boards, including Foothills United Way Serving Boulder and Broomfield Counties, Impact on Education, Humane Society of Boulder Valley, Boulder Innovation Center and Boulder Economic Council.
