Vestas to unveil new record-setting turbine blades

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas (VWS) said Tuesday it will unveil one of the longest turbine blades ever manufactured at its Brighton factory on Wednesday.

Vestas has four manufacturing facilities in Colorado and employs more than 1,100 people here. The Brighton factory produces 55 and 57.5 meter blades for the company’s V112 and V117 wind turbines. The new prototype blades are each 189 feet in length.

Vestas built its first manufacturing facility in Colorado in 2008, but the company has been through several rounds of layoffs, due in part to uncertainty over the federal production tax credit for wind power. Earlier this year the credit was extended for another year.
