Vail Resorts bags plan to trademark ‘Park City’ amid town outcry
Broomfield-based Vail Resorts has scrapped its plan to trademark the name “Park City” after major outcry from residents and other business owners in the Utah town.
The Denver Post reports that the company sent a letter to Park City locals over the weekend notifying them of the plan to halt the trademark application. The resort operator, which owns the Park City ski resort, had sought to trademark the name in relation to skiing and snowboarding operations. That move had riled many in the town who feared their own rights to use the town’s name in their business names would be infringed upon.
