USA Pro Challenge seeking new backers after owners give up bike race

Organizers of the USA Pro Challenge bike race are seeking new financial backing after it was announced Wednesday that the father-son duo of Richard and Rick Schaden has given up ownership of the race.

The Denver Post reports that the race’s leadership is working alongside businessman Ken Gart, who is leading the state’s Pedal Colorado initiative, to pursue several community-based and national investors, as well as a possible title sponsor, which has always been elusive for the race.

The Pro Challenge, started in 2011, is a weeklong stage race through Colorado that has drawn many of the nation’s and world’s top cyclists, with stages moving to different cities and routes each year.
