Unemployment rate remains stuck at 7.8% in Colorado

The state’s unemployment numbers once more remained unchanged at 7.8 percent in March, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said Friday.

It was the third month in which the figures remained constant.

Larimer County’s unemployment rate dipped slightly to 6.7 percent in March from 6.8 percent in February. It had stood at 7.4 percent in March 2011.

Weld County’s rate in March remained the same as February — 9.2 percent. It was 9.9 in March of last year.

Employers in Colorado added 2,600 nonfarm payroll jobs from February to March, while jobs in the government remained unchanged for a total of 2.29 million nonfarm jobs, according to the state’s data.

The industries that saw the largest gains were manufacturing, education and health services and leisure and hospitality, while trade, transportation and utilities, information, and professional and business services lost jobs from February to March.

The national unemployment rate also decreased year-over-year in March from 8.9 percent to 8.2 percent.
