UNC to build new Financial Education Center

GREELEY — The University of Northern Colorado has developed plans to build a new Financial Education Center and has received a $250,000 donation from North Colorado Medical Center Inc. to help kick-start a fundraising campaign.

In all, $900,000 will be needed for the project.

The center at UNC’s Kepner Hall, home to the Monfort College of Business, will replace an existing trading room, which is used by students majoring in finance to help manage $1 million of the UNC Foundation’s investments.

In Colorado, 1 in 3 women, 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 transgender individuals will experience an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime. During April, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month with the hopes of increasing conversations about this very important issue.

The renovation will include technology upgrades, a teaching lab, a conference room and an auxiliary classroom.

Al Dominguez, president and chair of NCMC Inc. board of directors, said the donation was meant to underscore NCMC’s confidence in UNC’s program.

The center’s conference room will be called the North Colorado Medical Center Conference Room.

Don Gudmundson, dean of the Monfort college, said the support will “help our program remain competitive, achieve additional stature among business colleges, and provide an interdisciplinary approach to financial teaching and research that will facilitate collaboration.”

Work on the project will start once the money has been raised.
