UCHealth hospitals in region score high in U.S. News and World Report’s analysis

AURORA — Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland and Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins are among the top five hospitals in Colorado, according to U.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll that was released Monday.

The two hospitals are part of UCHealth, a nonprofit health-care system that includes five hospitals and more than 100 clinics throughout Colorado.

UCHealth’s University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora was named No. 1 in Colorado and No. 20 nationally. Medical Center of the Rockies was ranked No. 3 in the state, and Poudre Valley was ranked No. 5. UCHealth’s Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs was ranked No. 6.

“We are honored by this recognition not only because we are one of the nation’s top hospitals, but because this shows our dedication to providing the very best and most innovative patient care,” Elizabeth Concordia, president and chief executive of UCHealth, said in a prepared statement.

“Patients travel here from across the nation because they recognize that UCHealth can provide advanced treatments and superior outcomes for our patients.”

Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News, said barely 150 hospitals — about 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 evaluated — were nationally ranked in even one specialty. “Even fewer excelled across numerous areas of care, as each of these Honor Roll hospitals did,” Harder said.

In addition to ranking No. 2 in the U.S. in pulmonology, UCH was nationally ranked in treating kidney disorders; cancer orthopedics; neurology and neurosurgery, diabetes and endocrinology; gynecology; gastroenterology and gastro-intestinal surgery; cardiology and heart surgery, and geriatrics.

Hospitals in Northern Colorado and the Boulder Valley that were evaluated by U.S. News and rated for certain treatments were:

Avista Adventist Hospital, Louisville; Boulder Community Health, Boulder; Centennial Peaks Hospital, Louisville; Estes Park Medical Center, Estes Park; Good Samaritan Medical Center, Lafayette; Longmont United Hospital, Longmont; McKee Medical Center, Loveland; Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland; North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley; Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins; and Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital, Johnstown.
