UCH, Ivinson management deal kicks in

A management agreement between Denver-based University of Colorado Health and Ivinson Hospital in Laramie, Wyo., went into effect Tuesday.

Under the agreement, Ivinson is now an affiliate of UCHealth, but will remain an independent hospital run by the seven-member board of the Albany County Hospital District.

The agreement allows Ivinson — the sixth-largest in Wyoming — and UCHealth to share expertise and resources, and further establishes UCHealth, with 15,000 employees and 1,500 beds, as a regional medical powerhouse.

“Affiliating with University of Colorado Health gives us at Ivinson a vast network of experts and knowledge to add you our own, some of the best medical and health care delivery minds in America,´ said Carol Dozier, president and CEO of Ivinson.

Ivinson’s top executives will be employed by UCHealth and will collaborate closely with leaders from all other UCHealth facilities.

“We’ll learn from UCHealth just as they learn from us,” Dozier said.

Ivinson has 99 inpatient beds and provides emergency and general medical and surgical care for patients throughout southern Wyoming. The agreement will give management control of Ivinson to UCHealth while Ivinson retains control over its finances.

UCHealth announced in July that it was working on an agreement with Ivinson. Earlier this year, UCHealth was granted the lease of Memorial Health System in Colorado Springs for $1.79 billion over the course of 40 years.

It has been less than a year since UCHealth was created through a joint operating agreement between Poudre Valley Health System, formerly based in Fort Collins, and University of Colorado Hospital.

“Poudre Valley Health System has long been a referral partner, and I am excited that our affiliation will now also include access to the University of Colorado Hospital,” Ivinson board member Terry Roark said in a statement.
