Transitional housing project to serve homeless in Boulder

UPDATED —The Emergency Family Assistance Association, HomeAid Colorado and Village Homes are collaborating on a small housing project in North Boulder that will serve those transitioning out of homelessness.

16th Street Transitional Housing is a $1.2 million, five-apartment project at 4650 16th St. in North Boulder. It will consist of one building with two two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units, plus a one-bedroom carriage home. It is expected to be completed this fall.

When finished, EFAA will have 58 apartments for qualifying families, seniors and individuals who can’t afford housing but are on their way to financial stability and self-sufficiency with support from EFAA’s case managers.

Exploring & expressing grief

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

Homebuilder Village Homes based in Greenwood Village, is donating 100 percent of its costs to the project and, as builder captain, will be seeking additional in-kind donations from the building trades and industry partners. Village Homes is the Colorado division of William Lyons Homes based in Newport Beach, Calif.

In addition to support from HomeAid and Village Homes, the construction project is also funded by Boulder County Worthy Cause, the city of Boulder, Colorado’s Department of Local Affairs, Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Colorado, the Gates Foundation and individual local donors.

“Finding stable and affordable housing is a critical challenge to families, particularly for the most vulnerable who might find themselves homeless otherwise,” said Julie Van Domelen, executive director of Boulder-based EFAA.

Centennial-based HomeAid Colorado, a chapter of California-based nonprofit HomeAid, connects Colorado homebuilders with nonprofits like EFAA on housing projects.

A ceremonial groundbreaking will take place at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 4650 16th St.
