Techstars adds Internet of Things startup accelerator in New York

BOULDER — Techstars is growing its New York presence once again.

The Boulder-based firm on Monday announced that it is launching its third startup accelerator program in the Big Apple, this time partnering with a stable of sponsors on an Internet of Things focus.

The Internet of Things sector has risen to prominence as more and more electronics and machines communicate not only with their users but directly with each other. It’s a broad category that touches everything from artificial intelligence to smart cities to health care to drones to agriculture.

Jenny Fielding, who will lead the IoT accelerator, wrote in a blog post that the new program will have a particular focus on the “Industrial Internet” and connecting the infrastructure of business and industry.

Techstars will run the program for PricewaterhouseCoopers, GE, Bosch, SAP and Verizon.

The IoT program adds to Techstars’ own New York accelerator, as well as one it runs in the city for Barclays that is focused on financial services. Launched in 2007 with its first Boulder accelerator, Techstars now runs 21 programs around the world.
