Swingle lawn care acquires portion of Nitro Green

BOULDER – Denver-based Swingle Inc., doing business as Swingle Lawn, Tree and Landscape Care, announced on Tuesday it has acquired the lawn- and tree-care portions of Longmont-based Nitro Green of Boulder County, with intentions of opening a new Swingle location in Boulder County.

Schneider and Sons Inc., which had done business as Nitro Green of Boulder County, is narrowing its focus to strictly to weed control in pasture and open spaces and rebranding as Weed Control Services.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Swingle’s president John Gibson said that the new branch will employ 15 to 30 full-time, year-round employees once it opens. The company is shooting for a spring opening, but it could be summer before its local roots are down. Both Gibson and Swingle marketing manager Vince Serio said the company has had trouble finding a spot to base local operations in part due to marijuana businesses snatching up a lot of the available warehouse space locally.

In the meantime, the local customers acquired from Schneider and Sons will be served out of Swingle’s Denver and Fort Collins branches.

Swingle’s services range from tree pruning and removals to tree fertilization and plant health to lawn fertilizations and aerations to weed control in the warm-weather months. The company does winter watering and pruning, as well as Christmas decorating, in the winter. The company’s tree-care services include specializing in emerald ash borer prevention and mitigation.

Founded in 1947, Swingle made its first acquisition in 2005 in Fort Collins. Earlier this week, the company announced it had acquired Advanced Tree and Lawn Concepts of Golden.

Gibson projects that the company will eclipse $20 million in revenue this year, about 65 percent of which comes from the residential side of the business and 35 percent from the commercial side. About 90 percent of the company’s customers are residential customers.

Gibson said the expansion this year will give Swingle about 245 employees. Schneider and Sons drops from five employees to two with the transaction. But Swingle has absorbed all three employees lost by Schneider and Sons, which remains based at 3686 Stagecoach Road near Interstate 25 and Highway 119.
