Suicide prevention a personal mission for THIRST founders

In honor of national Suicide Prevention Week this week, THIRST Living Waters is working with other local organizations to promote awareness of suicide and offer assistance to those who have been affected, including a suicide prevention walk in Greeley.

THIRST is a nonprofit charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Greeley and Weld County.
It was established by Rick and Barb Jenkins, whose daughter, Alison, took her own life at age 27 in 2007. The young woman was an EMT and paramedic and served in Northern Colorado.
The Greeley couple launched THIRST in June, dedicating the organization to promoting suicide prevention, education and support.
Rick Jenkins is a well-known area businessman, serving as executive vice president of Flood & Peterson Insurance Inc. Barb Jenkins has taught music  and accompanied school choral productions. Both have been involved extensively with local charities.
