Sterling-Rice Group OKed for rebates

BOULDER – The city of Boulder has approved marketing firm Sterling-Rice Group for up to $55,000 in rebates for sales and use taxes, and permit-related fees.

The company is expanding beyond its fourth-floor space at One Boulder Plaza into a total of 39,500 square feet, including a street-level presence on the first floor 1801 13th St.

The new space will include a test kitchen, mobile workspaces, convertible conference rooms, high-tech audio visual room and 3-D printing capabilities.

“Sterling-Rice Group is a vibrant and creative brand marketing company with strong sustainability values,´ said city manager Jane Brautigam. “The city is excited that Sterling-Rice is expanding its presence as a major employer in downtown Boulder with the assistance of this flexible rebate.”

“Boulder has long been an epicenter for food, innovation and entrepreneurship, and the Sterling-Rice Group has always been proud to be in the heart of it,´ said Buddy Ketchner, president of Sterling-Rice. “This new space will enable us to do what we do best in a state-of-the-art flexible space designed to allow for greater collaboration, not only with our clients but with Boulder’s entrepreneurial community as well.”

The flexible rebate program is one of the city’s business incentives, covering a wide range of fees, equipment and construction use taxes.

Through this program, the city manager may consider a specific incentive package for tax and fee rebates to meet a company’s specific needs. The company is then eligible for the rebate after it has made its investment and paid the taxes or fees to the city.

Sterling-Rice is the first company to receive rebates in 2013, drawing from $350,000 allocated for flexible tax and fee rebates for primary employers.
