Southwest to start flights to Baja resort

DALLAS – Winter-weary Coloradans can jet away to a Baja California coastal resort area beginning in spring.

Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) will start daily flights between Denver and Los Cabos International Airport in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, beginning March 10, according to a press statement. The service will be offered through AirTran Airways, which Southwest acquired nearly 10 months ago.

Seats are for sale at both AirTran.com and Southwest.com with introductory fares as low as $189 one-way, according to the press statement. Those fares must be booked by 12:59 a.m. MST on Wednesday, Jan. 2, for travel between March 12 and April 24.

Denver-based Frontier Airlines already offers nonstop service between Denver and Los Cabos, and three other airlines – American, Delta and United – offer one-stop service.

Southwest began service to Denver International Airport in 2006 with 13 daily departures to three destinations, and now operates 163 daily flights to 54 destinations from DIA.
