Quinn Snacks’ CEO named to Food and Wine’s list of innovative women

BOULDER — Kristy Lewis, chief executive and founder of Boulder-based Quinn Snacks, was named one of Food and Wine magazine’s 2016 Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink.

The third annual list features women who had the most transformative impact in the last year on what we eat and drink.

Quinn Snacks started with Lewis’ intention to clean up the most chemical laden food in the grocery store, microwave popcorn. A year later, she had created a patented compostable bag filled with ingredients from growers she knew and trusted.  With the addition of farm-to-bag Popped Popcorn and Pretzels.

The magazine pointed out that Lewis’ “pure-pop bag” uses recycled, compostable paper that’s free of the chemical-infused linings common to other, similar products; and her “farm-to-bag” popcorn itself uses organic ingredients and is GMO-free. The batch number on each bag, when entered on the company’s website, shows where every ingredient came from.

Lewis’ growing empire  includes pre-popped corn and stovetop kernels, and she also recently launched the first GMO-free, gluten-free pretzel, made from whole-grain sorghum flour.
