Pro Challenge 90 percent there on fund raising

Race organizers for the USA Pro Challenge bike race have raised about 90 percent of the $550,000 needed for Northern Colorado to host its segment of the race. Roughly half of this was contributed by Northern Colorado cities, the other half is being raised through sponsorships.

The 2013 USA Pro Cycling Challenge will have seven stages, beginning in Aspen/Snowmass and finishing in Denver. The race goes from August 19-25, with stage six out of seven passing through Fort Collins and Loveland on August 24^th.

Some Colorado regions will only have the opportunity to either begin or end a stage. The cities of Northern Colorado will get plenty of attention on August 24^th, as an entire stage will begin and end in Larimer County.

“We committed to having both a start and finish of a stage in Northern Colorado,” says Eric Thompson, president of The Group Inc., and one of the race’s organizers. “The eyes of the world will be on us.” The race is expected to be aired on television in 175 countries.

Colorado hosted the race for the first time in 2011. This year will be the first time the event has gone through Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, and Estes Park. The route for the race will reach altitudes as high as 12,000 feet before coming down onto the Front Range.

Race organizers said they will name the race’s sponsors and have additional announcements regarding fundraising in seven to 10 days.
