Planned Broomfield urgent care just the beginning in Colorado for Arizona firm

BROOMFIELD – An Arizona company has leased 6,000 square feet for a new urgent care center at the Broadlands Marketplace shopping center in Broomfield.

The new location is one of four that Urgent Care Extra officials have so far leased space for in the Denver metro area, joining Denver, Lakewood and Westminster. But a real estate broker representing the firm said this week that several more could be on the way along the Front Range, from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs.

Documents filed with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office indicate that the company could operate its new locations in the state under the name Metro Urgent Care.

The Broomfield location will be at 3950 W. 144th Ave. in retail space at Broadlands that was formerly home to an auto parts store. It is the largest of the four spaces leased so far.

“They’re making a pretty darn good push into the market,” said Bill Maher, a broker with NAI Shames Makovsky who is representing Urgent Care Extra, along with Nathan Palmer of National UC Realty.

It’s unclear when the Broomfield facility or others in Colorado are slated to open. Urgent Care Extra officials couldn’t be reached for comment this week.

Last week, the company finalized the sale of all 32 of its Arizona urgent-care facilities to Banner Health, an Arizona-based health system that has hospitals and clinics in Greeley, Fort Collins and Loveland. The Arizona facilities will operate under the Banner Urgent Care flag.

Paul Matthews, public relations director for Banner Health Northern Colorado, said Banner is not involved in Urgent Care Extra’s push into Colorado.

“Banner Health’s agreement with Urgent Care Extra is limited to the Arizona clinics,” Matthews said.

Urgent Care Extra was founded in 2003 by a pair of doctors, Jeff Sawyer and Doug Hobbs. The business grew to more than 40 locations in Arizona and Nevada before selling its Nevada facilities to Tennessee-based HCA last year.

In April, Urgent Care Extra officials filed articles of organization with the Colorado Secretary of State for an entity called Urgent Care Extra-Colorado LLC. That entity’s name was changed in July to UCXtra Services Colorado LLC.

Another entity called UCXtra Umbrella Colorado LLC, meanwhile, was formed in July, and state records show that the Metro Urgent Care trade name was registered to that entity in August.
