Oil & Gas Association asks judge to overturn Broomfield fracking ban
BROOMFIELD – The Colorado Oil & Gas Association has asked a judge to strike down Broomfield’s five-year moratorium on the oil and natural-gas drilling technique of hydraulic fracturing.
In a lawsuit filed Monday, the oil industry trade group has requested that a Broomfield District Court judge invalidate the temporary ban known as Measure 300 passed by voters in November 2013. The ban also prohibits storage in open pits and disposal of waste from hydraulic fracturing in Broomfield.
Hydraulic fracturing, of fracking, involves pumping millions of gallons of water deep underground to retrieve oil and natural gas from dense shale formations.
