Noodles discloses security breach of customer data

BROOMFIELD — Noodles & Co. said Tuesday that a data-security breach caused by malware between Jan. 31 and June 2 may have compromised payment information of some customers who used debit or credit cards at certain Noodles & Co. restaurants nationwide.

The information at risk includes the cardholder’s name, card number, expiration date and CVV. Sixty restaurants in Colorado were compromised, with 17 of those in the Boulder Valley and Northern Colorado. Click here for a list of locations in Colorado.

Broomfield-based Noodles & Co. (Nasdaq: NDLS) said it began investigating on May 17 unusual activity reported by the company’s credit-card processor. Third-party forensic experts discovered suspicious activity on Noodles’ computer systems that indicated a potential compromise of guests’ debit- and credit-card data, the company said in a prepared statement.

The company said credit and debit cards used at the affected locations are no longer at risk from the malware, and guests can safely use their credit and debit cards at Noodles restaurants.

Noodles & Co. said it is any is working with the U.S. Secret Service to investigate the incident.

The company said it is working to implement additional procedures to further secure guests’ debit and credit card information, including removing the malware at issue to contain this incident and to prevent any further unauthorized access to guests’ debit- or credit-card information.

“Noodles & Company takes the security of our guests’ information extremely seriously, and we apologize for the inconvenience this incident has caused our guests,” said Kevin Reddy, Noodles & Co.’s chairman and chief executive. “We continue to work with third-party forensic investigators and law enforcement officials to ensure the security of our systems on behalf of our guests.”

Guests can call 888-849-1067, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. holidays.
