New app accesses aerial images of Loveland’s changing landscape

LOVELAND – The city of Loveland’s Information Technology department has launched its Aerial Imagery Collection Web app as the latest addition to its online Map Gallery.

The collection provides a variety of aerial images covering a timespan from 1996 to 2013. The photographs taken from high-altitude aircraft from different years can be compared with one another by turning on the images of interest by clicking check boxes next to each.

During the 17 years covered by the images, Loveland’s urban landscape changed dramatically with the emergence of new housing developments and commercial centers. The mapping tool shows how those trends unfolded, especially on the city’s northwestern and eastern edges.

The online Map Gallery contains 13 interactive apps, providing a wealth of information on zoning districts, property information, flood plain mapping, oil and gas-production setbacks.
