Naked runner star of crowdfunding video

BOULDER – Move Sport Inc. wants to raise $20,000 with a crowdfunding campaign that features an online video of a mostly naked Olympic runner.

Olympic athlete Roberto Mandje wears calf-compression sleeves made by Boulder-based Move Sport, his running shoes and nothing else, for a promotional video on the IndieGogo.com crowdfunding website. You can watch it at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/recofit-compression-gear.

“Without my RecoFit compression sleeves, I feel naked,” Mandje says in the short video. The runner was paid an undisclosed “modeling fee” to make the video, said Susan Eastman Walton, owner of Move Sport, doing business as RecoFit Compression Gear.

So far, the online campaign has raised $3,150. Eastman Walton plans to use money raised in the campaign to pay for ads in running magazines, including Runner’s World. The company also recently invested in new packaging, a new company logo and a new website at www.recofit.co, Walton said.

“We’re trying to use social media and to depend on friends and colleagues to spread the word,” Walton said. “It’s just been a week and a half, and I’ve been told that I’m right where I should be (in terms of fundraising).”

RecoFit’s four products are fabric items that customers can wrap around their legs and arms to treat shin splints and cool the body, among other things. The products are manufactured in Los Angeles and include calf compression sleeves (half of the leg), full-leg compression sleeves, shin-splint therapy sleeves and an arm-cooler product.

Eastman Walton is a former sports editor for publications such as VeloNews and Inside Triathlon magazines. The compression products are sold in specialty running, cycling and triathlon shops around the country as well as on the company website.
