May opening set for new Estes Park Event Center and Pavilion

ESTES PARK – The grand opening of the new $7 million Estes Park Event Center and Pavilion is slated for May 2014.

The new center will be 33,000 square feet and will host expos, indoor festivals and sporting events. The adjacent Pavilion will be 19,184 square feet. These two buildings are in addition to the current fairgrounds facilities and the Estes Park Conference Center. Both buildings are funded by the Town of Estes Park and are being built by Dohn Construction Company of Fort Collins.

“The two new buildings truly open the door to a variety of new markets, year-round entertainment and unique celebrations,” Karen Lynch, marketing and sales manager for the Town of Estes Park said in a statement. “With a well-rounded, dynamic events complex like this, the possibilities seem endless. We expect it will draw new guests to Estes Park through all seasons.”

Since the Sept. 2013 floods, the town has been slowly rebuilding and trying to attract visitors once again. With the two facilities able to host events year-round, there is hope that tourism will increase as well.

“Having new events and attractions will certainly help us to draw new people and new investment in our local economy,´ said Peggy Campbell, president and CEO for Visit Estes Park, the area’s official destination marketing organization. “We have come so far since the flood, with almost all of the affected businesses back open. Now we are working toward a robust summer-fall tourism season and these additions will help get us there.”

The Town of Estes Park broke ground on the new buildings in June 2013. Although the floods had an impact on construction, both buildings are expected to be completed and open less than one year later.
