Markey out as Region VII SBA administrator

DENVER – The U.S. Small Business Administration on Monday named John L. Brown as the acting administrator for Region VIII in Denver, replacing Betsey Markey.

Brown succeeds Markey, who was appointed in January 2016 by President Barack Obama. Markey’s last day on the job was Friday, Jan. 20. A permanent regional administrator will be named by the new incoming SBA administrator. President Donald Trump has nominated Linda McMahon to head the SBA. McMahon, 68, is a co-founder of the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. empire and former Senate candidate.

Brown will continue to serve as the SBA’s South Dakota district director in Sioux Falls, a position he has held since 2005. As acting regional administrator, Brown will oversee six district offices in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

Brown began his SBA career in 1983. He has served as the acting district director in several SBA offices, including Los Angeles, Wisconsin and South Dakota. He also served as the acting regional administrator in SBA’s Region IX in San Francisco.
