Lucky’s Market moving HQ to Niwot

BOULDER – Lucky’s Market is moving its headquarters from Gunbarrel to Niwot as the company continues the torrid growth pace begun last year when the local natural/organic grocery chain started expanding out of state.

Lucky’s – which has stores in Boulder; Longmont; Columbus, Ohio; Columbia, Mo.; Billings, Mont.; and Louisville, Ky. – has leased 13,700 square feet at 6328 Monarch Park Place in the Boulder Tech Center near the intersection of Highways 52 and 119.

Owner and founder Bo Sharon – who partnered last year with Sunflower Farmers Market co-founder Patrick Gilliland to start the out-of-state expansion – said Friday that the plan is to be in the new digs by August. Sharon said Lucky’s has about 80 employees at its headquarters and will add about 20 more over the next year.

Solar Operations and Maintenance for Commercial Properties

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

It’s full-speed ahead for a company that just earlier this year was entangled in a dispute with Albertsons and Save Mart Supermarket, which had filed a lawsuit in Montana accusing Lucky’s Market of infringing on the trademark of California chain Lucky Supermarkets.

Sharon said Friday that the lawsuit was settled “amicably” a few months back. Without disclosing further details, he said his chain will be able to keep using its logo and branding going forward.

Lucky’s Market’s new headquarters will be more than three times the size of its 4,200-square-foot Gunbarrel location. The company had just moved to Gunbarrel a year and a half ago after outgrowing the office space at its original store in North Boulder.

Becky Callan Gamble of Dean Callan and Co. represented Lucky’s on the lease of its new headquarters, while Chrisman Commercial and The Colorado Group represented the landlord.

“The ironic part of it is, from where we started, the Boulder store will fit inside the new home office,” Sharon said.

Sharon said two more stores will open this year, with another eight in the works for 2015. The next will open in the St. Louis suburb of Ellisville, Mo., at the end of July. New sites have also been announced in Jackson Hole, Wyo.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Bloomington, Ind.; and Rock Hill, Mo.

Sharon said the growth at the headquarters is due, not only to the addition of the new stores, but also to the success of those that have opened so far.

“Luckily everything’s working very well, so in order to support the store base today and next year, (the headquarters expansion) is what we’ve got to do,” Sharon said.
