LP&C teams with PRPA on energy rebates

LONGMONT – Businesses in Longmont can receive rebates and business efficiency grants of up to $5,000 from the new Efficiency Works program for improving their buildings’ energy efficiency.

The new program offered through Longmont Power & Communications is designed to help commercial customers save money on their utility bills. Most business efficiency rebates are related to lighting or to heating and cooling projects. Longmont Power & Communications is the city-owned utility that provides power and broadband services to residents.

“We’re trying to help people save money and energy and make it as easy as possible to do so,´ said Marisa Jarae, web and digital media specialist at Longmont Power & Communications.

Rebates are calculated based on total project costs as well as on estimated energy efficiency savings, said Anne Lutz, energy services manager at Longmont Power & Communications. A rebate calculator and other program details are available at www.efficiencyworks.co

For example, the Longmont Council for the Arts will save an estimated $1,016 annually after upgrading the lights in its 2,500-square-foot office and gallery, according to the website. The group’s project payback period is calculated at two years.

Other related energy efficiency programs and rebates are available through Efficiency Works. The program was developed in partnership with the Platte River Power Authority and its owner municipalities of Longmont, Estes Park, Fort Collins and Loveland. The program budget, as well as the amount of rebate money, was not immediately available.

While some energy-efficiency project rebates have been available in the past through the Platte River Power Authority and its member communities, representatives from each community decided to combine efforts in 2013 to be more consistent in how money was handed out, Lutz said. The result is the new Efficiency Works program.

Longmont companies also can take advantage of energy efficiency rebates offered through EnergySmart, a countywide program, Lutz said. EnergySmart funding comes from Boulder County.
