Longtime TRU Community Care CEO resigns
LAFAYETTE — Darla Schueth on Monday resigned as president and chief executive of TRU Community Care, a job she has held at the nonprofit provider of hospice services based in Lafayette since 2001.
Rick Romeo, chairman of the nonprofit’s board of directors, said in a prepared statement that Pat Mehnert, who serves as vice president of quality and compliance, will become interim CEO.
The Daily Camera reported earlier this month that the board of directors had placed Schueth on administrative leave after employee complaints about high workloads and turnover.

“We are fortunate to have a person with Pat Mehnert’s talents, respect and leadership skills already in place to help lead our team through this transition,” Romeo said in the statement. “We thank Darla Schueth for her 16 years of service to TRU. She led this organization through a period of growth and development that produced one of the finest nonprofit hospice programs in the nation.”
Schueth, in the statement, said she was gratified by her time as CEO and was proud of all that the organization had accomplished.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have led TRU through its transformative period,” Schueth said. “I am proud of all that the organization has accomplished and I thank the dedicated staff of TRU for all their outstanding work on behalf of patients and their families.”
Romeo said the board soon would begin the process of a search for a new CEO, seeking “an experienced, compassionate and strategic leader who can build on TRU’s long legacy of achievement in patient care and service.”
