Longmont unveils “NextLight” Internet service

LONGMONT – The city of Longmont on Tuesday unveiled branding for its new municipal broadband Internet service and announced that about 500 potential customers will be in the first wave able to sign up for the service beginning Nov. 3.

The city is dubbing the service NextLight in homage to the city’s century-long history of providing electric light as well as its new efforts to provide the “next light” through fiber optics.

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

The service is rolling out in six phases, with plans to have it available to all residents and businesses in Longmont by 2017. The initial launch area is bounded roughly by Pike Road, South Sunset Street, Holly Avenue and Lefthand Drive.

Phase 2 of construction is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2015 and cover central Longmont, including downtown.

The service will offer 1-gigabit upload and download speeds to residential customers for $99.95 per month. However, those who sign up within three months of NextLight reaching their neighborhood will be able to score a perpetual charter rate of $49.95 per month.

Digital voice service will also be offered.
