Longmont United Hospital earns accreditation for radiology services

LONGMONT — Longmont United Hospital, a Centura Health hospital, has been awarded an accreditation in radiation oncology for its Hope Cancer Care Center from the American College of Radiology.

Radiation oncology, or therapy, is the use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.

The ACR is the nation’s oldest oncology accrediting body, with more than 650 accredited sites and 29 years of accreditation experience. The ACR seal of accreditation acknowledges that LUH’s cancer center provides the highest level of quality and patient safety for radiation therapy. It is awarded to facilities meeting specific practice guidelines and technical standards developed by the ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
