Longmont-based Avista Pharma acquires contract-services business from Scynexis

LONGMONT — Avista Pharma Solutions – formed last month through the purchase of Array BioPharma’s manufacturing and controls operations in Longmont – announced Thursday that the company has acquired the contract manufacturing, development and animal-health services business of North Carolina-based Scynexis Inc. (Nasdaq: SCYX).

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Avista, which retained 33 Array employees at the 50,000-square-foot Longmont facility at 2620 Trade Centre Ave., will hire all Scynexis employees associated with that company’s contract-services business and occupy Scynexis’s 90,000-square-foot research and manufacturing facility in Durham, N.C.

Avista is a subsidiary of Minnesota-based Accuratus Lab Services, which provides analytical and microbial testing services to the medical-device and biopharmaceutical industries in addition to manufacturing certain consumer products.

“This acquisition further expands our capabilities in CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) drug development and manufacturing services and establishes an immediate presence with global clients in the animal health marketplace,” Avista Pharma CEO Patrick Walsh said in a prepared statement.

Scynexis officials announced Thursday that, in the wake of the deal, the company will relocate to Jersey City, N.J., effective Aug. 1. They noted that the deal will allow them to focus their resources on clinical development of SCY-078, a drug candidate for the treatment of invasive and treatment-resistant fungal infections.”
