LAFAYETTE – Nationally recognized health advocate Pete Leibig plans to retire Sept. 30, after serving as president and chief executive of Clinica Family Health Services for 27 years.

Clinica has been nationally recognized for its model of patient-centered health care. WomenGive, a program of United Way of Larimer County, was started in Larimer County in 2006 as an opportunity for women in our community to come together to help other women.

“Pete has been a leader in this community … making sure that people who need access to care get it,´ said Susan Wortman, development director at Clinica Family Health Services.

When Leibig started work at Clinica, the annual budget was less than $1 million. It’s now close to $31 million, Wortman said. The clinic started out with about 1,000 patients per year; the number is now about 40,000.

Leibig has been involved in state health-care issues and served on state boards. He won the UCLA Anderson School of Management award in 2004 for best community health-care improvement project.

Smith said he sought out work at Clinica because of its national reputation. He previously spent eight years in the international health division of Abt Associates, a consulting and research firm in Bethesda, Maryland.
