Kress Cinema enters final stretch of fundraising

GREELEY — The Kress Cinema and Lounge is hoping that its crowdfunding campaign is as successful as the one conducted by Fort Collins’ Lyric Cinema Cafe.

Both independent theaters are dealing with Hollywood’s switch to an all-digital platform, which will render 35-mm projectors obsolete within six months.

Over the summer, the Lyric used Kickstarter.com to raise $150,000 for a digital projector. On Oct. 19, the Kress Theater in Greeley launched its own Kickstarter campaign, hoping to raise $80,000 for the same purpose.

As of Nov. 8, the campaign had raised $62,148. The fundraiser will last until Nov. 19. If the full $80,000 is not raised in that amount of time, all the money donated will be returned to the donors.

The Kress is also hosting fundraisers, the proceeds from which go to the Kickstarter campaign. The next fundraiser will be Nov. 18 at the Kress Theater auditorium, located at 817 8th Ave.
