Kaiser, Cigna rate highest among large insurance purchasers

Cigna and Kaiser Permanente rated highest in a survey of large-group insurance purchasers conducted by the Colorado Business Group on Health.

Nine plans were included in the Health Matters Quality Report, which included both preferred providers organizations (PPOs) and health maintenance organizations (HMOs).

The Cigna and Kaiser plans included in the survey were HMOs. These plans were rated as “better” than the average plan in Colorado.

In other words, Cigna and Kaiser members weighed in with overall satisfaction with their health plan. Those surveyed rated the actual health care they received, not just their plans.

Other plans, like HMO Colorado, a subsidiary of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Aetna Health’s PPO and Cigna’s PPO were ranked “average,” while Aetna’s HMO and both the HMO and PPO offered by Rocky Mountain were graded “below average.”

The report is compiled annually by the Colroado Business Group on Health, a nonprofit that works to preserve quality and access in health care.

The Health Matters Quality Report is aimed at employers and consumers and seeks to keep them informed when making health care decisions.
