Hickenlooper weighing certificates of need for new hospitals
New hospitals and standalone emergency rooms seem to be popping up in every corner of Northern Colorado and the Boulder Valley lately, not to mention the rest of the Front Range.
But the Denver Business Journal reports that Gov. John Hickenlooper is considering supporting a proposal that would require certificates of need for new hospitals and freestanding ERs in an effort to curb that growth. Enacting such legislation, which Hickenlooper said he is not yet backing but only exploring as an option, would make Colorado join 35 other states that have such requirements.
