Haffner steps down after 12 years leading McKee Medical Center Foundation

LOVELAND — Julie Johnson Haffner is leaving the McKee Medical Center Foundation, where she’s been executive director for the past 12 years.

Friday was her last day at the foundation that raises funds for McKee Medical Center, a 132-bed, acute-care hospital in Loveland.

“I’m not retiring. It’s is just time to do less and do different,” she said. “It’s time to give up 60-hour weeks.” Johnson Haffner has been serving as executive director and events coordinator. She oversaw a four-person staff and worked with a 31-member board of directors.

“Twelve years is a long time at one foundation. The work can be cyclical. … I like variety, a little bit of change.”

During her tenure, the foundation’s endowment grew from $2 million to $5 million, and the foundation’s donor base grew from 4,000 to 40,000.

“I like to say we raise funds and friends. Without the friends, there are no funds,” she said.

Johnson Haffner plans to take some time off to travel and spend time with her family before launching a consulting and coaching business for nonprofits.
