Greeley annexes 68 acres on east side

GREELEY — The Greeley City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to annex approximately 68 acres of land east of the city in unincorporated Weld County.

The property, owned by Michael Bliss of Bliss Produce Co., is on the south side of East 8th Street and west side of Fern Avenue near the Greeley Weld County Airport.

Bliss sought the annexation so future development on the property has the ability to connect to Greeley services.

The property presently has a single-family dwelling, five mobile homes, 11 industrial buildings and three oil and gas wellheads.

Bliss had told the planning commission he wants to have about 67 acres zoned medium industrial and the rest zoned for a conservation district. The establishment of zoning will be considered at a separate hearing that must take place within 90 days of the annexation.

The city’s planning commission considered the request Nov. 25 and recommended that the city council approve the annexation.

Bliss could not be reached for comment, but recently told the planning commission he has no plans for developing the property in the near future.
