Fort Collins recount confirms Gerry Horak’s city council win

FORT COLLINS — Fort Collins City Councilman Gerry Horak survived a recount Friday – and picked up six votes in the process.

Under the terms of city codes, challenger Carl Wangsvick had paid $9,071 as part of his formal request for City Clerk Wanda Nelson’s office to conduct the recount of District 6 ballots after initial returns from the April 7 election showed him losing to Horak by just 23 votes. After 14 election judges spent nearly six hours recounting the ballots on Friday, the new total showed Horak winning by 29 votes.

Councilman Wade Troxell was elected mayor in the municipal election, succeeding Karen Weitkunat. Ray Martinez and Kristin Stephens also won seats on the panel. The seats held by council members Gino Campana, Ross Cunniff and Bob Overbeck were not part of the April 7 election.
