Fort Collins lifts watering restrictions

FORT COLLINS – The City of Fort Collins Utilities Department will lift the city’s Reponse Level 1 water restrictions, effective June 1.

The decision was based on additional water supplies that have become available since restrictions were implemented April 1. The Level 1 restrictions meant that certain addresses could water on specific days, two days per week. The rules also prohibited lawn watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. or on Mondays.

Snowpack from late spring storms has created additional supplies in Horsetooth Reservoir, according to the city.

The increased water supply allows the city to meet 2013 water demands and to achieve a carryover goal to have about 7,500 acre-feet of water, or 30 percent of annual demand, stored in the Colorado-Big Thompson project for use in 2014.

Even though the restrictions are being lifted, the city’s wasting water code will still be enforced. Two days of lawn watering is typically enough, according to the city, but during hot, dry weather, a third day may need to be added.
