Fort Collins Chamber endorses CSU stadium proposal

The Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce, after months of silence, came forward Tuesday in support of a new, on-campus football stadium on Colorado State University’s campus.

David May, president and chief executive officer of the chamber, said the stadium would provide a welcome economic boost to the community.

In a statement May said, “CSU is arguably the single most important contributor to the community’s quality of life and economic vitality.While Fort Collins is more than just CSU, we would be much less without it.”

The stadium proposal has generated strong opposition in Fort Collins among faculty and taxpayers who fear it will draw resources away from the university and cost the city millons of dollars in new infrastructure costs.

Supporters, however, maintain that the stadium is critical to allowing the university to remain competitive in recruiting and athletics.
